Why Boutique Hotels are so Popular

Are you planning your next vacation or business trip? If you travel frequently, you probably have a favorite hotel chain that you stay at. However, have you considered staying at a boutique hotel? Boutique hotels make your stay more enjoyable by providing luxurious amenities and distinct features that most large national chains lack.

A boutique hotel typically differentiates itself from a standard hotel by offering a more intimate, luxurious environment. In comparison to larger chain hotels and motels, boutique hotels offer personalized services and facilities. Boutique hotels also differentiate themselves by offering guestrooms that have their own distinct style and decor--and the rooms tend to be decorated with quality furniture and artwork.

- Tip: Boutique hotels are also known as "lifestyle hotels" as an industry term. The public typically uses the phrase "boutique hotels" or "boutique luxury hotels."

Boutique hotels offer many amenities.

- On-site dining facilities
- Bars and lounges
- Wi-Fi Internet
- 24-hour hotel staff
- Pet-friendly services such as grooming and doggie treats
- Flat screened TVs
- Grocery shopping
- Spa services

For example, if you are looking at luxury boutique hotels in Chicago, you may discover that amenities such as 24-hour room service, laundry, private wine reserves, wireless high speed internet and rain showerheads are available.

Boutique hotels also offer a unique atmosphere not found in most hotel chains. Many boutique hotels have European décor and have an intimate, warm and contemporary atmosphere.

Boutique hotels may also have a variety or hotel room options. For example, if you are looking at New York luxury boutique hotels, you may find one that offers suites in designs such as Chalet, Zen, Luna or Marquis.

If you are travelling on a business trip or planning a conference, planning your stay at a boutique hotel can be ideal.

Many boutique hotels have meeting rooms that can be arranged for receptions, presentations, social events or parties. Many also have event coordinators that can assist with event planning, catering and managing the event.

Boutique hotels also offer amenities that are essential to the business traveler, such as high speed internet access and a large desk for working. Other amenities and services to look for include a business center, secretarial services, valet parking, complementary newspapers, complimentary coffee throughout the day and access to a fax and copier.

Are you concerned that staying at a boutique hotel will be out of your price range? If so, think again. You can find online hotel specials by researching the internet for hotel deals.

Boutique hotels may also have special offers on their website. For example, one New York City boutique hotel has offers a discount for AAA members and another gives guest 15% off their stay for booking in advance.

In summary, there are many benefits of booking your next stay at a boutique hotel.

- Boutique hotels can be business friendly
- Boutique hotels can be affordable (tip: look for online hotel specials)
- Boutique hotels can be pet friendly
- Boutique hotels can have customizable hotel room options

Can Hotel Salak The Heritage, as a hotel - a former Dutch heritage, compete in the era of globalization? This is a fair question as the crisis occurs, the hotel business in Indonesia is shining and the competition becomes tough.

Hotel Salak The Heritage is always to respect international norms and values, and the spirit of professionalism. Its Commissioners and Directors are always applying norms that circulate, values, and spirit, and they always respect the justice as a basis or foundation to manage and operate the company, so the Hotel Salak The Heritage is able to achieve all the success and overcome difficulties or problems

Gallery Hotel (simplified Chinese:; pinyin: Jill jidin) is a four-star boutique hotel located on Nanson Road at Robertson Quay on Singapore River, in the Central Area of Singapore. History

The Gallery Hotel was built on a 3,361 square metre (36,178 square feet) site in Robertson Quay, cleared of old warehouses when the area was designated for redevelopment by the Urban Redevelopment Authority in the late 1990s.

The hotel was originally known as Gallery Evason Hotel, but dropped the "Evason" name in January 2002, when Six Senses Hotels, Resorts And Spas, which used to manage the hotel and owned the Evason brand, withdrew from the management.

Constructed at a cost of S.9 million by developer and owner Robertson Quay Investments, the Gallery Hotel was completed in 2000 and opened on 11 September that year.

Architecture

Highly individual places

The Gallery Hotel was conceptualised as a "HIP" (Highly Individual Places) hotel. This class of hotel was identified and classified by writer and photographer Herbert Ypma through two publications, HIP Hotels: City (1999) and HIP Hotels: Escape (2000). Associated with designers such as Philippe Starck, Terence Conran and Anouska Hempel, these hotels were defined by Ypma as an "exciting, stylish alternative to the dreary sameness of chain hotels and the stuffy pomposity of traditional 'grand' hotels".

Local architectural firms William Lim Associates and Tangguanbee Architects, led by architects William S W Lim, Tang Guan Bee and Teh Joo Heng, designed the Gallery Hotel. In 1990, the developer, Robertson Quay Investments, had approached the firms' two principal architects who suggested the HIP hotel notion. Robertson Quay Investments was convinced of the viability of the concept "that reflects a new aesthetic, a different way of doing things, and that caters to a growing group of design-savvy young customers with cash to spare".

Together with the developer, the architects sought to place Gallery Hotel in the HIP class of designer hotels that intentionally fall outside the staid star rating system. The purpose was to create a specific lifestyle for the design-conscious jet setter who looks for the extraordinary. The Gallery Hotel, like other HIP hotels, strives to be more than a temporary abode at one's destination; it aims to be the destination itself.

The Gallery Hotel has been listed in The Phaidon Atlas Of Contemporary Architecture along with works by architects like Herzog & de Meuron, Frank Gehry and Tadao Ando. It is also featured in Ypma's HIP Hotels: Budget (2001).

Pluralistic design

The Gallery Hotel adopts a postmodern pluralistic architectural style, which collages a variety of building forms.

A twisted cuboid form, with seemingly random and multi-coloured windows, stands like a massive pop art signpost at the Mohamad Sultan Road end of the Gallery Hotel. The rooftop lap pool with its cantilevered glass form looking over the street is the first of its kind in Singapore.

Conceptualised with the HIP objective in mind, the close collaboration between the two architectural firms has resulted in a flamboyant postmodern pluralistic collage of experimental building forms. The architecture of the Gallery Hotel reads like a puzzle and consists of several seemingly disjointed, unrelated building forms meshed together. These forms are each disparately expressed and connected by an intuitive circulation system of internal streets, gangways and stairways, thus giving a sense of urban complexity to the scheme. With only a narrow end fronting the Singapore River, the architects adopted the concept of creating a microcosm of the city in the restricted site, instead of a monolithic block which might have been the typical design response.

With a total gross floor area of 14,000 square metres (150,695 square feet), the Gallery Hotel consists of a main building complex divided into three distinct parts, with a series of smaller volumes of incongruent forms interspersed around it. Secondary facilities, such as restaurants and a health club, are located in several building forms not contained within the main complex, but surrounding and attaching themselves like prosthetics to the parent hotel block. Attached to one side of the building are three large cylindrical glass and steel structures for food and beverage outlets. The collage serves to enhance the building's notion of transparency and interaction between the interior and exterior. The hotel's main building slab is elevated above ground by sitting on a transparent glass-clad lobby. By not adopting the traditional hermetic, inward-looking hotel atrium, the hotel offers enhanced interaction with the surrounding urban environment.

The multi-coloured Mondrian-esque fenestration on the tower block juxtaposes the building's twisted cuboid form. This gives the tower block the appearance of an oversized piece of pop art fronting Mohamad Sultan Road. These windows seem random, but have been placed to maximise the picturesque views from the hotel rooms and to protect the privacy of the hotel guests. To complete the postmodern architectural style, one of the building's faades facing Singapore River takes on a warehouse form, mirroring the simple pitched roofs of the old warehouses that used to occupy the area.

The rooftop lap pool with its cantilevered glass form looking over the street, the first of its kind in Singapore, is another element in the HIP design. The Gallery Hotel, which collaborated with Lasalle-SIA College of the Arts, is also decorated with works of art, from neon lights to ashtrays, to engage visitors in the HIP lifestyle. Even the treatment of textures is pluralistic, as seen in one of central rectilinear blocks, which is veiled by a perforated steel screen that acts as both a climatic filter and a projection screen.

Interior architecture

Most of the Gallery Hotel's interior decor was designed by Eva Shivdasani, a Swedish former fashion model, and Bernard Bohnenberger, from Sixth Senses Hotels and Resorts. While the Gallery Hotel's interior architecture embraces the exterior, it also reflects the surroundings through the use of materials. Metallic surfaces reflect the geometric roofs of former warehouses that occupied the area. Pipes and services are exposed in bright primary colours. The entrance foyer consists of just an open-air space with a portable desk, like a valet parking kiosk. The smallness of the lobby and the translucency between inside and outside indicate the nature of expected guests, congruent with the concept of HIP hotels not catering to large tour groups.

The Gallery Hotel has been designed as a cyber-age hotel where there is unlimited broadband Internet access. In conference rooms, instead of white-boards, metal surfaces, which form parts of the interior concept, are to be used for meetings using felt-tipped marker pens.

The fourth floor lobby features a reception desk in an open area next to a restaurant that looks like a garage. Other distinct items of decor include hubcaps to support bar stools and sections of aluminum scaffolding for table legs.

On the guest floors, room numbers are labelled on the floor and wire mesh newspaper racks are fitted on to the wall outside each room. Each floor features original work from the Lasalle-SIA College of the Arts, while all the rooms are individually decorated. The sleeping arrangements of guests were even taken into account during the architectural design: Single-bedded rooms, for individuals and couples, have translucent glass panes instead of solid walls separating bathroom and bedroom. There are also exclusive women's floors where even male staff are not allowed.

Why On-site Hotels at Amusement Parks can be a Great Deal

Why On-site Hotels at Amusement Parks can be a Great Deal

Many times people avoid the on-site hotels at theme parks because they believe it will be too expensive. The reality is that these hotels frequently cost twice the price or more than the hotels and motels in the area around the theme park. In fact, if you do not mind driving a few miles, you might find a room even cheaper. However, the rooms in the on-site hotel at theme park may prove to be a better value than their cheaper but less convenient counterparts.

Hotels at theme parks often carry the themes in their rooms.

Staying in a princess room or a Mickey Mouse room can build anticipation for the activities inside the park. These themes will not make the beds more comfortable, but they may serve to keep the kids from getting bored from waiting in the room. Having the various items visible from the park can also offer some extra photo opportunities without losing time in the park to snap similar shots.

These on-site hotels may also have more park information available.

It is common for all of the inns near tourist attractions to be loaded with information about the area. On-site hotels can sometimes have materials that are a little better than what is available elsewhere. You may have to purchase them, but even more detailed maps can often be found in these establishments.

Discount packages are often offered by on-site hotels at theme parks.

Travel packages can be a great way to get a vacation paid for in advance. The good news is that these packages usually include theme park tickets at substantial discounts. If the tickets are reduced by nearly 50%, this one savings alone can make your room in this hotel much cheaper than those in the area. If the tickets are not reduced, you may get some VIP passes that help you to be able to get on rides and into shows quicker.

In addition to reduced ticket prices, some of these packages include coupons for discounts throughout the park. Even meals can be purchased cheaper or be included in the overall package price. If the bargain is really great, it might be packaged to include travel discounts, too.

Staying at an on-site hotel can mean cheaper or free parking.

Most theme parks today charge to per car for parking. By staying on-site, this parking fee may be waived or be a one-time charge that is good for several days. The hotel may even offer better security for your vehicle than parking on the normal lot. The parking can sometimes be covered so that your vehicle is not only safe from thieves, but from the weather as well.

On-site theme park hotels offer easy access to your room during the day.

By staying on-site, you have the opportunity to return to your room for portions of the day. Since you will be within walking distance of the attractions, you will not have to make a marathon out of the theme park experience. When you get tired or at meal times, you might choose to go back to the room to recline and recharge for a short time. This convenience can be worth a lot to families that are already tired from the travel to get to the theme park location. It can also be a blessing for those who have flown in and do not have a car available.

Five Types of Luxury Spa Hotel Massages

Five Types of Luxury Spa Hotel Massages

Article by Peter Luxury Hotel Blog

Five types of luxury spa resort massages
Most people assume that when they go to a spa resort or spa hotel that they will want a Swedish massage or deep tissue massage. But this is like ordering spaghetti Bolognese or a hamburger at a posh restaurant! Sometimes it's good to break from your rut and try something new.
So without further ado, here are the five favourite special types of massage to get at a spa destination.

1. Hot Stone Massage
Hot stone massage is at its best in winter. The therapist uses smooth, rounded stones that have been heated in water as an extension of his/her hand. The heat helps warm up muscle tissue and is deeply relaxing. (As long as it's not too hot!) Hot stone massage requires a lot of skill, so quality can vary widely.

2. Lava Shell Massage
Lava shell massage is another way to get heat. The therapist uses highly polished shells that stay hot for about an hour due to the chemical reaction of minerals, algae and salt water inside the shell. The pressure is light and the therapist doesn't have to change out the shells as often as stones, so it's a super-relaxing experience.

3. Shiatsu
Shiatsu is another style of Asian bodywork that generally takes place fully clothed on a mat on the floor. It was developed in Japan and uses finger pressure (sometimes a little intense!) to restore the healthy flow of energy throughout the body.

4. Watsu
Watsu is a very soothing type of massage that takes place in a special watsu pool heated to the exact same temperature as your body. You and the massage therapist both wear bathing suits, and you wear floats to help your buoyancy. The therapist cradles you, and twirls you through the water, first one way then another, taking your body through a series of passive stretches and twists. Being held in the warm water is deeply relaxing.

5. Reflexology
Love to have your feet rubbed? The therapist works primarily on your feet, stimulating reflex points in the feet, hand and ears to promotes health in that organ via the body's energetic pathways. When done by a skilled practitioner, reflexology is a deeply relaxing treatment with benefits that can be felt throughout the body. (If they're less skilled, you'll just feel like you've had a very long foot massage.)

How to Get a Good Hotel Room

hotels
by dantc
How to Get a Good Hotel Room

We've all had the hotel room whose window faces the brick wall, has the air conditioner compressor outside the window, has the elevator next door. How do you get a good hotel room? This will article will give you a few good tips.

Be loyal to a brand of hotels. Find out which hotel chains share loyalty points. Go to the website of the hotel you stay at most frequently and learn all of the brands within the family of hotels. For example, I use Hilton when I travel for work because there is usually always a Hilton in a major city, then I use Embassy Suites or Homewood Suites when I travel with my family on vacation - they are all in the same family so I get brand loyalty everytime I am on the road.

Choose your priorities. Do you want a sunny southern window? A balcony? Near the gym? Do you want double beds? Do you want a view? Do you want quiet? Do you want to be 3 floors or lower in case of emergency you can plan easy escape? Know what is important to you and then be ready to compromise on the other points. Give up the king size bed for the sunny southern window.

Call ahead and Confirm your Reservation with the hotel, not the 1-800 number. When you do this you can chat with the desk clern about your preferences that they can note in your reservation.

Arrive early - the later in the day the fewer rooms.

Look like an executive when you arrive. Sure you don't want to travel for work on Sunday afternoon and you would prefer to be in your Sunday jeans and sneakers, but remember, the hotel wants to project a high-class image and has an affinity to someone who shows up in a tailored outfit (doesn't need to be a suit on Sunday) wearing leather shoes, not sneakers.

Engage with the desk clerk in the same way that they engage with you. Courteous, polite, charming, brisk. Help them feel good about themselves doing a good job and they will want to help you out. Be ready to compromise on some of your requests to get the high priority requests met.

If you are in an awful room - we could all tell horror stories - call the front desk and request either a fix or a room change (know which one you want before you call). They are usually very accomodating in wanting to keep you a happy customer. Plumbing will go, housekeeping will make mistakes, supplies will run out - it happens - be as understanding as you can but get the solution you need.

Never negotiate with someone who does not have the power to fix the problem. When calling down to change a room ask, "Do you have the ability to reassign me to another room or do I need to speak with someone else?". If you want to be reimbursed for services that were not rendered ask, "Do you have the ability to reimburse me for this or do I need to speak to a manager?"

And finally, remember, if you are paying a rock-bottom price for a hotel room, you are not going to get the nicest room. You will be in that room with the brick wall outside the window..... The nicest rooms will be for the guests paying higher for an equivalent room. Feel satisfied that you are getting the accomodation for less.

If you are paying for a cheap hotel room you are going to get a cheap hotel room. Set your expectations accordingly and you will not be dissappointed, and every once in awhile you will be pleasantly surprised.

Hotel Tips For the Weary Traveler

Hotel Tips For the Weary Traveler

Make a reservation: Even during off season hotels may fill up for different reasons. Conventions, military stays, sport events, etc., can happen at any time of the year.
Expect the rate of the rooms to vary according to what your are requesting, but don't be shy about negotiating for the best deal. Prices will also depend on what type of hotel you plan on staying at. While online and travel agents may seem a good choice, you would do better negotiating with the hotel itself.

Arrival time: Try your best to be early. This gives you time to get to the front desk and get checked in without feeling rushed. Don't assume your room will be ready. Often when people arrive the housekeeping staff is still working. If the hotel is not full you may be able to have your room changed for another. Waiting for a room is usually short so if you can wait you are sure of a freshly cleaned room.

Inside your hotel room: Take a look around your room. Is everything available you expect to be there? If not call the front desk and ask for it. Ask for extra items if you need them.
Put away anything you want kept out of sight. This includes cash, change and anything of value if the hotel does not supply safekeeping. Don't leave money around that the housekeeper may assume is a tip unless you mean it to be and don't test the housekeeper's honesty by leaving it out.
You have heard the bedspread horror stories where a light shows stains on the spread. If you are worried about this either take the spread off and don't use it or ask for another one. Don't automatically assume the housekeeper left you with a dirty spread. There are hotels where the staff has limited resources or where the management has rules about what housekeeping can do. Often it is only one person washing, drying and folding the laundry. With the amount of towels and sheets to wash there is seldom time for all but the dirtiest of spreads and blankets. This is not to say you should put it with it, just so you have an understanding of why it may happen.

Housekeeping: To get the best result from the housekeeper make it easy for him/her to clean your room. At some hotels the housekeeper is not allowed to touch your belongings. If your bed is covered with your belongings you may find the bed left unmade. Suitcases left where they have to be stepped over to do a job makes it more difficult. Use your trash cans. Often it is hard to tell what a person wants to keep from that he wants thrown away.
Putting all your towels in the tub will make it easier for the housekeeper to gather them up. You can strip the bed and put the sheets on the floor if you want to.
Remember, housekeepers are human and they make mistakes. Don't automatically make a complaint against a housekeeper who may have forgotten to put something in your room. Doing so is unnecessary. You can ask for housekeeping to bring you the missing item(s).

Tipping the housekeeper: Do not assume the same housekeeper is cleaning your room every day. Leaving a tip daily will assure the one who cleaned your room that day will get the tip. Waiting until the end of your stay to leave a larger tip does not guarantee the last one to clean your room will divide it with the others. If you know who cleaned your room and they are available, hand it directly to them. Only leave it with the front desk as a last resort. Your housekeeper may not get the tip doing this. Even managers have been known to keep monies meant for the housekeeper. Don't rely on their honesty.

Continental Breakfast: Usually a free amenity. Offerings vary among hotel chains. This is not room service. You have to come to the food. Breakfast rooms do not stay open all day. Find out what the hours are so you can be sure of getting your food. Don't think you can have breakfast at 10:30 when it closes at 10:00. You may, however, have access to coffee, tea and other beverages.

Checking Out: Go through your room and check everywhere for your belongings even drawers you don't recall using, under the bed, in the bathroom. under the tables. If you do forget an item housekeeping is required to turn it in. This doesn't always happen so it is best to be sure you do a thorough sweep of your room. When you find something missing immediately call the hotel. They will make arrangements to ship it to you. Expect to pay the shipping cost. Waiting to claim an item you left raises your risk of not getting your property back as items are only kept for so long. Things you are likely not to get back may include money, food and anything that looks like trash.

All hotels have a check out time. If you find you need more time some hotels will extend your time under certain circumstances. If you are a preferred customer you may get the extra time to check out as a benefit. You may be required to pay for an extra day depending on how late you check out.

Best Hotel Near Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN

Best Hotel Near Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN

Article by Doubletree Hotel

My name is Brendan, welcome to the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in downtown Rochester Minnesota. I am the front office manager here at the hotel. It is my job to make sure you enjoy your stay immensely throughout the entire course of your stay, answer any questions you may have and provide any services you may need.

How can I get from the Doubletree Hotel to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN from here?

You actually have several options to get to the Mayo Clinic. Generally speaking my number one recommended way is to utilize the complementary Lincoln Town car service that we provide, this is offered and maintained by our Bell Staff every day from 6 a.m. until eleven p.m. Simply approach the front desk about ten minutes before you are ready to go we would be more than happy to take you over directly to the Mayo Clinic and come back and pick you up as well. Otherwise we are connected to the Mayo Clinic via the sky way and pedestrian subway system which are climate controlled. You are more than welcome to navigate through these and we have detailed maps. We would be more than happy to show you the way as well. Otherwise, you can certainly go outside which is an absolutely fantastic choice, six months out of the year. Now the other four or five months out of the year I would recommend staying indoors as much as possible.

What if I don
